A volunteer-coordinating service based in Redding that helps distribute needy animals from rescues and shelters to areas with more opportunities.  If you are taking a road-trip and have room for an extra crate or two, check with them! Occasionally members have or know of adoptable dogs.

Haven Humane Society Largest shelter in Shasta and neighboring counties, contracts with City of Redding for animal control. Dog adoption fees from $100, spay and neuter vouchers sometimes available. Nonprofit organization based in Redding. Adoption events 2nd Saturday of the month at Dana Park Veterinary Hospital-1405 Bradford Way, Redding. Dog fees $150 and up.

Shine On Animal Rescue (SOAR) Bella Vista based all-breed dog and cat rescue, dog adoption fees range from $55 – $250. "S.O.A.R believes it is our moral duty to show compassion toward abandoned, neglected, and abused animals that have found themselves homeless. Another Chance Animal Welfare League (ACAWL) Palo Cedro-based no-kill organization, also involved with spay/neuter vouchers for Shasta County Residents. The organization also runs a thrift store at 3984 Deschutes Rd, Suite D, Palo Cedro.

City of Shasta Lake Animal Control Small city-administered shelter with surprising selection, often overlooked, does not always have updated web information on adoptable dogs. Adoption fees from $10.00 (not altered, heartworm-checked, or vetted)


Second Chance Pet Rescue Based in Corning, partner with the Corning Animal Shelter. Adoption fees $150 for screened and trained pit bulls, $75 other dogs.

Tehama County Animal Shelter Well-supported shelter with adoption fees as low as $35.

Annie’s Pet Rescue Cottonwood-based rescue “focusing on pets considered “un-adoptable” that are generally not accepted into traditional rescues due to illness, injury, behavioral issues, age, breed and/or appearance”. Specialty: Handicapped or hard-to-place pets
